2012: Expecting Greatness

Bishop T.D. Jakes said; “don’t just go into the New Year waiting to see what’s going happen, but go expecting great things to happen!”  I am going to do just that!

I decided to take off the first week of the New Year to focus, communicate with God, organize my life, and plan what I expect to see happen in 2012!

In the midst of working, going to meetings, running errands, and a host of other everyday tasks; we lose the time to be quiet and still in the presence of God.  This year for me is all about my faith walk.  Everything that I expect to see happen in 2012 can only come through the power of God.  And in order for me to have clarity and direction, I need to depend solely on the Lord.

You may think well if she is a Christian that is a given, but not true.  Life itself is designed to keep you busier than busy and fall away from the foundation of depending on God.   Walking a faith walk isn’t easy.  Quite the contrary, it is the hardest thing to do in my opinion.  But from experience I know it is the only way for me to live.

I can’t begin to understand all the things that I will face in 2012 and nor do I know how to figure most things out that require divine intervention, so in order to keep myself sane, I have to rely solely on God’s direction.

So that’s why I am taking the opportunity to be still, focus, and seek the face of God for 2012.  I am going into the New Year expecting great and mighty things that I can’t do in my own intelligence or strength.

To God be the glory for the great and mighty things that He will do in 2012!

Stop That Procrastination!

I am trying to get the word procrastination out of my life!  It creeps up at the most untimely times.  I don’t want it to be my friend but I can’t seem to get away from it.  I have so much to do and really am very excited about all the projects that I want to complete, but still the little friend and his cohort distraction come to visit almost every day.

I know my problem and I know how to fix it so why is it so hard to get past it?  I don’t know I guess if everything were easy life would be that bowl of cherries without the pits.  Unfortunately, you must have the pits in order to have the cherries.  I’ll get to the place of progress soon.  If I have to fight procrastination and distractions for the rest of my life, I will!

When you finally find your place of purpose; that’s all you want to focus on.  However, in life you have many more responsibilities to take care of  and sometimes you can’t just do want you want.  I am learning the hard way that I have to prioritize, organize, plan and oh yeah execute to be successful.

Do you remember how “Bewitched” used to just wiggle her nose and things would happen.  Well I definitely don’t want to be a witch, but the trick with the nose is pretty impressive and I could use some things happening in that type of quickness.  It doesn’t work that way, I know.

My mother is a super planner and executor.  She always tells me just do one thing at a time and you will eventually get the task done.  But I am a visionary and I always look at things in “big picture” form.  So it is hard for me to look at the little steps in between that make it a reality.  I just want to jump from concept to vision!

I have to stop this crazy thinking if I am ever to get to my full place of purpose!  I have to get started somewhere.  Well today looks like a good of a day as any to start moving forward.  Book editing; ready or not here I go!

The Butterfly’s Journey book is due out in April 2012!  Pray for me!

Please Hear Me

I have experienced too many times conversations were I walked away with a strong feeling that I was not heard.  It is a frustrating feeling, but more than that it is a feeling of not mattering.  It is truly disheartening to feel like someone doesn’t get what you are trying to say.

As verbal beings we all have the need to be heard, to be understood, and to be valued for who we are.  I have not been a good listener to my friends sometimes and for that I am sorry.  I didn’t realize the impact of not effectively listening to a person can be.  It really takes a committed mind and person to want to effectively listen to someone else’s story.  Whether it good or bad everyone wants an opportunity to voice what is on their minds and in their hearts.

It is not easy to share your deepest feelings or problems, but when you get the nerve to do so you at least want the recipient to be listening.  Really listening.

Have you ever poured out your heart about something that you were going through to someone and then have them just jump over to another subject?  You are left with a questionable look on your face like really did they just not hear what I just said or do they even care about what I said.  Sometimes it is the latter but I find most of the time it is a lack of listening skills.

Since I am on my journey to helping hurting women, I realize now more than ever that I need to really be listening to their words, their actions, non-verbal cues and I will need to dig deeper into the words that they don’t say to really understand where they truly are and what they have endured.  I have asked God to give me a deeper level of discernment to be able to see their spirits as He sees them.  I can’t go with my limited human ability to understand some of the pain that they may have experienced.  It may be that I have never experienced that sort of trauma myself so I need to be in tune with the Holy Spirit in order to understand where they are and how I can help and pray for them.  It is not going to be an easy task, but for the sake of someone’s healing I am committed to being that “true” listening partner.

I suffer from severe insomnia in which my doctor prescribed me sleeping pills.  Well of course I would rather just drink a warm glass of milk or do something more on the natural level to get some sleep.  But sometimes when my body can go no more on the limited hours of sleep that it gets, it desperately needs to rest and so I breakdown and rely on the medicine to get what my body needs.  It is no joke not being able to rest your body.   When someone who cares about you says; “wow I wish I could sleep in”,  knowing that you suffer from a lack of sleep it really hurts your feelings.  It seems as if they don’t care.  But I have decided perhaps they don’t really understand the severity of my condition and are just speaking out of ignorance.

I challenge you all to try to make a commitment to those around you to really listen to what they are trying to say.  Sometimes they may not be able to articulate it eloquently through words, sometimes you will need to go behind the words or the actions to really be able to understand.  Just try to look at things from their perspective and be understanding and never judging.  We all should have the opportunity to be heard.  Please hear me.

Don’t Just Stand There

If you are anything like me I get motivated by the visions that I have.  I see the end result and am stirred to high motivation.  It is the steps in between that kill my motivation sometimes.  It looks too daunting to complete!  I fall back and retreat from taking the next step; I feel paralyzed.

God is teaching me in my journey that I need to take one step at a time.  He will reveal the parts as I go.  This life is a test of faith and without it you won’t have a chance.  Sometimes you don’t know which way to go, but you have to stand firm and listen to the still small voice of God to direct you.

God told me this week that I need to push passed my fear of the unknown and He will make every provision that I need.  I trust Him because He has never failed me yet.  I have been commissioned to minister to hurting women at all levels even situations that I have never experienced.  He will give me the words and prayers to pray.  God will be in the midst and it is up to Him to do the transformation not me.  I just need to keep my motivation to move!

Sometimes we lose our motivation to fear, to tiredness, to life itself.  But God is telling us now is the time to change our lives for a better (new) life.  If you can only find the motivation for each day.  Don’t worry about motivation for the entire journey, just search and get motivation for one day at a time.

My mother asked me “how do you eat an elephant”?  The answer; one bite at a time.  Allow the Lord to get you from here to there.

So find your motivation for today and listen to God for what you need to do today that will move you toward your purpose, heal you from your past, and change you from the inside out.

God Is Not Through With Us Yet

Several women joined me for a virtual journey this month called – Down the Path of Worthy.  This week marks our final trek.

We have only begun to scale back the pieces of our worthiness during this journey.  There is so much more work that we need to do.  We have found out that it is not an easy task walking back to places in our lives that have caused us pain.  But we had to go there in order to re-write the scripts of our lives back to the original content that God had written for us before we were even a thought in our mother’s womb.

We have realized that this process of finding our true worth in God was more exhausting than we thought it would be.  But we are dedicated to reaching the place that we most desire and that is figuring out our purpose and destiny.

Sometimes the emotional journey is too much and we have to rest along the way.  It’s okay, we understand that we have to press to reach the top of the place that we want to be.   We have to dig deep!  We trek on!  We won’t stop here we will push ourselves with the strength that God gives us to make a difference in our lives and the lives that we touch.

We are not convinced that everyone will understand the process but we hope that all will trust it.  We share this experience because it is the very thing that has helped us; it is our testimony for others to know that it can be done.  God can and will turn our ashes into beauty!

We encourage all women to join us in this journey of a lifetime.  It is not about changing our habits, but it is about transforming our lives for a better life that God has ordained for us to live.

Be encouraged, God is not through with us yet!

Day 6, the cross

The Journey Day 6

Thus far on our journey we have exerted a lot of emotional energy, but we realize that in the end it will be well worth every minute.

Once we reached the top of the hill of evaluating our measures of worth we were exhausted.  We decided that on each 7th day we would rest and reflect.

On Day 6 we had to peek inside a scary cave of information.  We had to get a true sense of the worth that God has connected us to in Him.

We have all read or heard about the crucifixion of Christ.  We have been moved by the account of His death that had been foretold in the Old Testament and New Testament in the Bible.  But did we have a clear view in our mind’s eye of what really happened to him that day?

We read a full medical account of what Christ had to physically encounter on that day.  I will not be able to write everything in this post but if you desire to read what we read about that day please email me directly and I will send you a copy. (lisa@butterflyjourney.net)

After reading that account there is no way that if you are alive and have blood running through your veins and have a heart of just a little compassion can you not know how worthy you are to God!

I personally went away with a new thanks in my heart for what God did for me that day!  I can’t even express it, it is too deep.

We hope that you will continue this journey with us!  You can connect with us via the social media tools that we use that are on this blog page.  We hope to see you  on your path to worthy!

The Journey Day 5

On Day 5 we had to trek up a steep hill.  So we grabbed some protein bars and plenty of water, took a deep breath and made our way.

Today we had to really dig deep and we were not sure what we would find, but we needed to go deep inside ourselves.  We had to communicate how we were evaluating our worth.  We had to share what were some of the temporal things that we were connecting our worth to.

Many of us had a hard time with this one and it took us awhile to get to the top of that hill.  It was a daunting task.  Again, we had to go over that hill in order to reach our next destination on the path to worthy.

The butterfly’s journey is not an easy one.  When we see the beauty of the butterfly and amaze at its ability to be free to fly and dance among the flowers of the field, we fail to realize the journey that it had to take to get to that scene.  It has to change.  In its process it actually liquefies while in the cocoon so that it can become what it is intended to be!

That is where our journey took us on this day.  We had to look deep inside for all the flawed ways that we have equated our worth.  We are so used to connecting our worth with temporal things of the world which may be counter productive to the way that God values our worth.  Because of years of evaluating ourselves that way it is hard to then change.

This exercise was super important to this pivot part of our journey.  This is the part where the scales on our eyes can start being removed and in turn we can begin our transformation to our “true” worth and purpose!

Keep moving we will meet you there!

Day 4, destiny, Down the Path of Worthy, God, journey, love, the love chapter

The Journey Day 4

Day 4 of our journey to find understanding about our “true” worth and we are doing pretty good.  Our energy level is high and we can’t wait to reach our destiny!

On Day 4 we completed an exercise that I found on another blog (What Would Jenn Say?!) a few months ago.  We read 1 Corinthians 13 (The Love Chapter) and we had to then re-read it and insert God were the word love was used.  We also had to insert other names in the place of the word love to see how those around us measured up to the word of God!

This was an eye-opening exercise for most of us.  Just starting with replacing the word love with God gave us an instant understanding that God truly is “love” and He wants the best for us.  Moreover, when it came to inserting our own names it was a humbling experience that showed we all have work to do in the love category.

We have all heard this chapter read many times, especially during weddings.  But have we really measured what it is saying to us?  We discovered the depth of what this chapter is telling us what “love” really is.

Many of us said that when we hear this scripture read that we will never hear it the same from this point on.  It really came to life for us and it will be used as our measure of real love from this day forward.

Try this exercise for yourself and you will be amazed of the understanding of  “real” love as God has ordained it to really be!

The Journey Day 3

We are really moving now!  Day 3 we wrote one last letter.  We wrote a letter to God from us.

In this letter we had to express to God everything that we are, what we were not and all the little things in between.  We took this opportunity to ask God questions about our lives.  The things that have happened to us that have shaped the person that we are today.  We asked about the things that happened to us that we did not understand.

Even though we understood that God already knows these things it was important for us to write it out for ourselves.  The exercise allowed us to reflect on our lives the good, the bad, and the ugly and just let it all out on paper.  We believe that it is very therapeutic to write.  It allows you the opportunity to express what may be inside but no other opportunity to release.  We must purge those thoughts and pains out in order to allow the good things and new things into our spirit and heart.  We will now be able to allow our minds to receive the new ideas to flow into us so that change can transform us.

We told God how we viewed Him in our lives and then gave thanks for the things that He has given unto us through out the years.  It was a time to give thanks!

What do you need to tell God?  Write Him a letter today!

Day 2, Down the Path of Worthy, God, journey, letter, seeking God, the butterfly journey

The Journey Day 2

We are well on our way to understanding our “true” worth!  Day 2 we wanted to discover how we “think” that God feels about us.  We wrote a letter to ourselves from God.

We took this opportunity to reflect on how we feel God sees us.  This was a very sobering task as we had to reflect on the things we have done or not done; things that perhaps God would be pleased with or not so much.

This exercise made us think about the blessings that God has given to us even when we may not have deserved it, but yet He still blessed and loved us.  We are hot now on the pursuit of finding that “true” worth.

As the letters came in we could see that everyone found that sweet spot of how God loves us any way we are and that my friend is “true” worth.

What would God say to you?
