While You Wait

Waiting on God doesn’t mean doing nothing. Waiting isn’t passive, it’s a posture of faith, prayer, obedience, and courage. Waiting on God can be praying, studying His Word, preparing, serving, growing, and remaining faithful.

There are two distinct Hebrew words in regard to the word “wait”. Qavah means to wait, look for, hope, and expect. Qavah is active and hopeful, not passive. Chakah means patient, disciplined, waiting. This waiting involves focus, restraint, and readiness. Pursuing God attentively and being prepared for His timing.

What Are You Doing While You Wait? Examine your waiting season.

  • Are you growing spiritually?
  • Are you praying?
  • Are you preparing?
  • Are you learning? (God teaches us as we wait).
  • Are you obeying?
  • Are you striving to become the person God is calling you to be?

The waiting room can become our classroom for faith, patience, character, and trust.

Waiters don’t just stand around, they serve.

Are you preparing?

Are you preparing for what you are asking God for? For an example; I am waiting for a physical healing. Which I already know I have because of the finished work that Jesus did on the cross. But I am waiting for the full manifestation of my healing. As I wait, I’m putting into practice new lifestyle changes that will allow me to be a good steward over the healed body that I am asking God to release to me. That includes eating healthy food, exercising, and self-care, including the proper rest.

So, what are you doing to prepare for what you are asking God to give you? Don’t just pray for the opportunity, prepare for it.

Waiting requires courage? Read Isaiah 40:29-31. Courage is a heart anchored in faith. We cannot wait in own strength.

The biblical description of courage is to trust in God’s promises, protection, and guidance. While you wait you need to be confident in what God has already said and done. Waiting can be an opportunity for the enemy to tell you lies and try to discourage you from receiving the good things God has for you in His perfect timing. God is excellent in all of His ways.

There is purpose in the pause.

Sometimes a “not yet” is not a denial, it’s preparation. The “not yet” may be creating a space for something you aren’t ready to receive right now.

What if your waiting season isn’t evidence that God has forgotten you? What if it’s an invitation to trust Him more deeply?

You may not know when the answer will come or why you have to wait, but you can choose what you will do while you wait.

Waiting is action.

So, while you wait, keep praying. Keep preparing. Keep growing. Keep serving and keep trusting God.

Your waiting season has purpose. Don’t waste it.

The Problem

The problem that the butterfly had was not knowing her value or worth as God had ordained it to be. The enemy is great at distracting us from the truth.

That was one of the biggest problems the butterfly had: not understanding who she was. And from that misunderstanding, she built all her decisions and based all her relationships on a lie.

She fought to be everything that she believed would bring her love. But what it actually brought her was pain, trauma, shame, and guilt. God never intended for her life to be this way, but she wasn’t listening to Him. She depended on the world’s systems to evaluate who she was supposed to be. And that was “the problem”.

Unfortunately, it took the butterfly years to finally get to a place where she could look to God. She would spend many years living an unsatisfying life, walking in brokenness. But God didn’t leave her in that space. He had a plan to divert her from the destructive, broken life to a place of wholeness in Him. But it wouldn’t be easy for the butterfly.

Even in the place of being transformed, the butterfly was kept in the wilderness, a place where her whole dependence had to be on God and nothing else. None of her old patterns would work in this situation, so she had to surrender.

The journey was a hard lesson for the butterfly, and it wouldn’t be until she was safe in her deliverance and healing that she would understand the full scope of what God did for her.

I find it amazing how God works out the bad things in our lives and turns them into something good. He does it even when we have decided to go our own way!

The butterfly is my story of redemption and love. I have spoken to, ministered to, and walked with women who were in the same sort of place that I was in. Being lukewarm in our walk with God is not pleasing to the Father. It is our responsibility to work out our soul salvation (and as Paul says: “with fear and trembling”). It’s time to consecrate ourselves to God and begin the process of sanctification.

I pray that you will desire to move past where you are and allow God to begin bringing you to a place that is pleasing and glorifying to Him. Time is of the essence. Jesus is coming back for a bride (church) that is without spot or blemish, and I don’t know about you, but I want to be there at the wedding with “the bridegroom,” Jesus.

Today is the day of salvation and repentance. The King is coming!

Not Consumed

When I look over my life, I am amazed at the things that could have or should have consumed me.

Some things were because of my own decisions, and some were because of life itself. But in any case, because of the great love of God, He did not allow me to be consumed.

His word in Lamentations says: “His compassions never fail. They are new every morning!” Thank God that He doesn’t leave us in our mess. He is our hope.

Every morning can become a new opportunity to renew our minds, but also to refresh our spiritual relationship with God.

When you look back on your life, can you clearly see some of the things God has kept you from?

One thing I do know, which no one can tell me anything different, is that God is faithful. Period.

When I was going through difficult seasons in my life, God was always there. Whether I could understand the outcome or not, He was faithful and compassionate. That is why I put all my faith and trust in Him, because He never fails.

Be blessed in Him.

From Broken to Beautiful Series Part III – Why Your Story Matters

There are a couple of points we need to delve into in this post.

Do you really comprehend that if you are a believer in the God of the universe, you have a real enemy?  That enemy is working tirelessly to get you to turn away from God.  He is a deceiver and a liar.  And if he can get you to buy just one of his lies, then he has an opportunity to get you to stumble and fall.  Where are you falling? Away from God.

I mentioned in a previous post how the world’s systems and culture will have you saying, “Oh, it’s not that serious.”  In fact, most of the things we think have no real significance have a very deep spiritual outcome.  And now is the time for the people of God to wake up from their spiritual slumber and begin to walk in the things of God.  (We will need to dig a little deeper into this topic in another post.)

The enemy wants you to believe that whatever you are going through, you are the only one. But the Bible tells us that there is nothing new under the sun. Ecclesiastes 1:9 The evil one wants you to keep your tough seasons to yourself. He doesn’t want you to get encouragement from others, or, better yet, prayers going up on your behalf.  No, he wants you stuck and believing that no one cares, especially God.

But this is where the other point comes in: sharing your story will matter to someone.

Your testimony about your struggle with addiction, but by the grace of God, He delivered you, can be the very thing that gives someone else hope.  Sharing a scripture that you clung to when you were diagnosed with stage 5 renal failure (Psalm 91) can be someone’s saving grace when they are facing serious health issues. God is too gracious and good to us not to share our journey to help another person.

Your story may not look like mine, but it matters.  Don’t allow the enemy to trick you into believing that your story will not matter, because it does.  God has assigned someone to your voice and whatever way He uses you to get your story out there do not sit idle on it.  Speak.

From Broken to Beautiful Series Part II – 3 Lessons I Learned While Writing “The Butterfly’s Journey”

Growing through life, there is always a lesson to be learned.  But only if you are wise enough to seek it.

Often, we don’t see hardships or uncomfortable situations as lessons, but they are lessons all the same.  If we are curious enough to learn from them, we can not only conquer them but also experience true growth and maturity.

That’s what I desired when I walked through the healing process from my spiritual depression.  I wanted to know why I ended in a depressive state, especially when I knew God.

Here are three lessons I learned while writing my book, “The Butterfly’s Journey”.

  1. I knew God, but my intimacy level with Him was not where it should’ve been. I didn’t have the reverential fear or holy fear that He deserves, because after all, He is the sovereign God, the Creator of the universe.
  2. I didn’t understand my worth.  I thought I had to do whatever to please others.  And in the midst of pleasing others, I totally lost myself. Plus, I almost lost my eternal inheritance from God.
  3. God’s redeeming grace and unconditional love. When I look back on this period of my life, the things I allowed to happen in me and through me were horrible.  My actions grieved the Lord, and I felt ashamed. But His grace, hallelujah, was there to help me back up and gave me another chance to get it right.

No matter where you are on your journey, I want to remind you that you are not alone.  God is always there with you, even if He seems silent.  Just know that you are not too far away that God can’t reach you.   But we must have a desire to turn (repent) and come back to God, so that He can heal our brokenness and turn our lives into beautiful ones, as He intended.

Be blessed,

Lisa M Walker

From Broken to Beautiful Series Part I – What Inspired Me to Write “The Butterfly’s Journey”?

I didn’t really inspire myself to write the book; I was given the task directly by God. I wasn’t sure of what to do, but I said yes to God and trusted Him to help me accomplish the task.

At the beginning of writing, I asked God why He wanted me to write the book. He clearly told me it was to help others who might be traveling a similar path. But I was a little apprehensive, because this story was my personal journey. I didn’t know if I could be so vulnerable with people outside of my close circle.

Later, I came to understand the importance of helping someone else understand their journey, and perhaps I could save them from the pitfalls I had endured.

I began to write. It was as if the Holy Spirit took over my hands, and I typed fast and long, and the words kept coming until I had no more to say. I wasn’t sure whether I was finished or just stuck in a writing block.

What came after that was concerning.  I read over the pages that I had written and began to cry at my own story.  It seemed so sad and broken; my heart was broken. God showed me that I was still healing from that part of my life.  And before I could release anything, I first had to finish healing.

At that point, my story sat in my computer until it was God’s appointed time for me to release it.

Sadly, it took 13 years for me to heal and get up the courage to move forward with publishing. In between all those years, I’ve been on many journeys, specifically with my health.  I was diagnosed with renal failure in 2022 and had to go on dialysis for 2 years, but God blessed me in October of 2025 to receive a lifesaving kidney transplant.

I am grateful for the next chance to complete everything that God has assigned to me. Stay with me, there is more.

Do You Want More?

When things are going well, life seems grand. But when I reached a point in my life where the things of life no longer satisfied me, I started searching for more.

I wasn’t sure what I was searching for, but a deep feeling in my spirit told me there is more to life than this. I had always known of God, but it wasn’t until I began to seek Him out for answers to my questions about my life that I began to understand the depth of His love for me.

The word of God tells the whole story about the unconditional love that He has for each of us and the opportunity to know Him more. John 3:16 says, “For this is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.” NLT

I firmly believe that we are all born with a yearning in our spirit. We don’t quite know what we are yearning for, but it’s something. We seek to fill that empty feeling with things of this world, temporal things. Since this world is the only life we know, it seems adequate to gravitate to the things that this world has to offer. The world offers successful careers, an abundance of wealth, and the accumulation of things like houses, boats, and cars, but these things fade away over time. Let me disclose that there is nothing wrong with any of these ambitions, but they are not the things that will satisfy the void in your spirit.

Don’t you agree that the void that you sometimes feel is deeper than these things? If you are in a season where you feel dissatisfied with your life as it is, then I challenge you to begin a journey to find what’s really missing. Here are some action steps you can take this week to begin.

  • Take time to reflect on your life as it is now. Write down all the things that you feel satisfy you.
  • Journal what you feel is missing in your life.
  • Evaluate if you receive or accomplish certain things, would you feel complete?
  • Pray
  • Talk to a trusted friend, family member, or spouse about what you discovered by completing these steps.

I can attest that there is so much more that God has for you in this life and eternity. It’s never too late to find the real you.

Transformed

“Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, His good and pleasing will.” Romans 12:2 NIV

Transformation requires surrender.

When I walked into a place of depression, I didn’t know I needed to be transformed to heal from the trauma.

It would take months, actually years, before I would understand the full scope of the severity to which I had allowed myself to sink.

It was a gradual progression in my life when things seemed to go awry. I began to lose the very things that I loved, like relationships and joy. Unfortunately, I would have to spend years in this dark place before I would get to a place of healing. But healing did come.

My upcoming book, The Butterfly’s Journey, was born from a real journey… mine.

Stay connected, as more of my testimony unfolds.

In Christ,

Sister Lisa Walker

At The Appointed Time

I am so excited that after so many years working on this manuscript, I am finally finished and ready to publish. All of you who have been following me for a while know that this project has been an extremely long time coming.

I often wondered why it was taking me so long to complete. Many people asked me about it over the years, and I was embarrassed to say that I was still working on it. But in truth, I wasn’t working on it at all; it was just sitting in my computer, dusty.

I have prayed many times and asked God to send someone to help me get the book completed, but He didn’t send anyone. And those who did come to assist, didn’t really help, but I was grateful that they offered. I realized it was something that God had to work out in me to be able to finish.

There were times when I would read through part of the book, and raw emotions would come up in my spirit. That was a direct indication that I was not totally healed from the spiritual trauma that I experienced during that season.

I took a book-writing class a few years ago, and one of the things the instructor told us was that when she finished writing her first book, God told her to trash it. She was so surprised as to why God would tell her to trash her finished work. God told her that when she wrote that draft, she was not fully healed from what she wrote about. And writing and releasing a book like that could cause spiritual trauma to the reader. God told her not to bleed on the reader. Meaning that if you write and release your work from a place of brokenness, then the reader could be exposed to the very thing that they are trying to be delivered from.

And with that information, I sat on the book for years. I didn’t feel it was ready to release when I began writing it. Others around me thought it was a great finished product, but I knew I had to wait on the Lord to help me release it at the appointed time. Some of the time was plain delay on my part, and some was waiting for the right time.

When I say I am proud of myself at this moment, it is an understatement. I have worked hard over the last several weeks to make sure that not only did I complete this project, but that I did so in excellence. I have spent hours editing and rewriting, making sure I crossed every T and dotted every I. Because not only is this work a special gift from God, but it’s also an anointed word for those who need a success story of redemption, love, and grace from a loving God.

Be looking out for more details in the days to come for a release date, events, and gatherings as God releases this project for His glory.
