The Woman in the Mirror

When I was suffering from depression and beginning my healing process with God; I had to ask myself some tough questions.  Why did I end up that way?  What were some of the things that I personally did that contributed to my situation?

It took all the emotional strength that I could muster up to ask those questions.  I was frightened more by the thought of what the answers were.  But I had to know, I couldn’t move forward in my healing without knowing the truth.  I never wanted to travel to that place again.

As I saw myself in the mirror of God’s eyes it cut me as deep as a double-edged sword.  The darkness that surrounded me was overwhelming.  I didn’t even recognize myself.  But in the writing of my book I now realize now raw those pains still are.  Whenever I share my testimony, I get emotional about the imagery that God showed me of my life.  It grieves my soul!

But still everyday, I look in that mirror of myself to see where I am now.  I see the miraculous changes that only God could do.  I see a woman full of life and purpose.  I see the light of life surrounding me taking the place of the darkness that once followed and plagued me.  I can’t forget that woman in the mirror, she is my sister, my friend, she is me.  I will continue to advocate for her and pray for her and help her to find her place in life.  It is not easy looking at yourself in the mirror; seeing your life as it really is.

But I wanted to endure that so that I can be real for other women who are going through their storms of life.  I want to tell them the whole process; every detail is important to the healing process and growth.  You can’t just give someone  the beginning and the end and never share the middle of your story.  It does them no good at all.  Everyone wants to know that they are not the only one who has suffered, who has gone through bad things.  They want to relate to some piece of your story so they know that you truly understand.

Once they see you on the other side they wonder if they too can be healed.  That is why it is so important for me to share, to minister, to pray with and to love all the hurting women no matter what they face because I know that through it all God can redeem you.  He can and He will turn your ashes into beauty if you allow Him to.

If only I could touch a 1,000 lives then I know my journey would not have been in vain.

  1. Hi Lisa. Do you have a formal ministry or do you mentor women? I’m interested to know more about your story. I’m a young woman moving through life very fast & I’m having a hard time slowing down to tend to my mental and emotional health. Lately, I’ve REALLY been struggling with issues of self-love and self-worth and trust…I’m finding it very difficult to be open with those close to me and trust that they won’t hurt me because I’ve been burned many, MANY times before. Right now, I’m on the path of trying to reconnect to Christ–going back to the basics of my faith–or spiritual “boot camp” as Joyce Meyer calls it. I’m just wondering if we could talk more in depth via email..? Thanks again for the great post.

    1. Hi Chanel,
Thanks for the comment and I would definitely love to connect with you. I do have a ministry (The Butterfly Journey) and it’s whole mission and purpose is about helping women like yourself. I will email you today and we can share.

  2. Hi lisa, I had a friend tell me about your blog that she had read. I have just read it myself and it really meant alot to me. I am going through a really rough time right now, financially, health wise, I am trying to get back in to God’s grace. I need all the help that I can get. from reading your words it sounds like you are on a really good road now heading in the right direction. I have prayed and tried everything I know to help me out of the money sistuation (spelling), and I can’t find any help anywhere. I have just turned it all over to the Lord and asking his help and I am sure that in his own time he will send me help. I am not in good physicial health, I am right now where I can;t get up and do anything due to my lower back, can’t hardly stand at all, have been in bed most of the time for rest trying to keep down sever pain, but have turned all that over to the Lord as well. Thanks for what you are doing to help all us women who are going through a rough time. God Bless you. Nita

    1. Hi Nita, (I sent a reply but then I could find it and so I am sending another) If you receive the other one than I pray that means you are getting a double portion of the Lord today!

I am glad that the words that I have shared have been a blessing to you. I understand the place in which you find yourself. When I was deep in depression only a few years ago, I was far from the place of purpose that I am in now. But God… He healed. When I was in my pit He was there even though I left all alone. When I could no longer take the emotional pain that I felt and got enough strength to lift up my head to call out to Him, He answered and came swiftly to rescue me.

I know that you have laid it all before Him today and that is what you need to do, but do one more thing for me. It may sound funny or a little crazy but I believe in this day God is trying to do some radical things in our lives. So if you would lay your hands on your back and say; “it is well with my soul” and do the same thing over your purse or bank statement and even put your bills in a pile and say the same thing – “it is well with my soul” and everyday I want you to activate your faith in God for those things you are seeking from Him and see how the Lords will begin to move.

I am interceding on your behalf and I will not stop until a breakthrough has manifested. For I am my sister’s keeper. Please keep in direct contact with me. Email me anytime @ lisa@thebutterflyjourney.net or butterfly920@comcast.net.

Be blessed because you already are!
